The AncestryDNA arrived! The admixture results and the genetic matches are an overwhelming amount of information! But it's amazing to know!
As I explained in my other blog, Rueda y Fingerhut, I took the National Geographic's Geno 2.0 test back in 2017, and then followed up with Insitome's Regional Ancestry test and Helix Ancestry Basics. AncestryDNA, as my fourth DNA admixture test, brought me very few surprises, but I did appreciate the attempted breakdown of my West African ancestry.
Of the four tests, Ancestry assigned the largest number of markers as "European Jewish." Not surprisingly, Spain was the next biggest group. All other groups account for under a quarter of my genetic markers.
Populations that match significant portions of my genetic markers are Native American (both North and South American as well as Andean), and Western European (England, Wales, and Northwest Europe and France).
Populations that match small portions of my genetic markers are African (Benin and Togo, and Cameroon, Congo, and southern Bantu), Italy, and the Middle East.
What utterly surprised me is the large number of DNA matches that I have: 1,526 "close matches," or people estimated to be my 4th cousin or a closer relation, and 69,035 "distant matches," estimated to be 5th to 8th cousins. Next post will show how I try to make sense of all these "connections."
